Building a Mountain Home in Colorado

Aug 30, 2020

Thinking of building the perfect luxury mountain home in Colorado?

Know what you want to build first

Knowing the type of home, the size (square footage), layout, materials and it’s purpose (full-time residence or vacation home?) is the most important step.  This helps narrow down the options and helps your agent find the perfect location.

Location is important – but the details matter

The elements must be considered when looking for a lot.  Besides the view, sun, water (drainage for rain & snow) & wind are important factors.

Be sure to examine the expenses involved – every property is different. Such as Taxes, Water & Road access, proximity, and accessibility not only to the town but for your contractors and materials.  Not to mention the ease of getting to the slopes in winter for that perfect powder day!

Choosing an architect & a builder

Involve your agent in choosing your architect and builder – it is important that both the builder and architect know the lay of the land in your area and have a great deal of experience.  Research and ask for testimonials and in-depth portfolios.  Ask plenty of questions and gauge their communication skills.  This is a long and personal relationship and you want to be sure you communicate well.
